Beginning editing

Today we put all of our footage onto Adobe Premier. We broke down the individual scenes and put them in the right order, later adding the audio and editing the footage so the lip-syncing matched the lyrics. Here is a screen grab of the footage being put onto the timeline...

The Album Promoting Poster

Yesterday we attempted our first draft at the poster, we wanted it to stand out and look unique, but also link in with our Digi Pack.

Here is our first draft:
We realised here that the writing was too plain and boring so wouldn't stand out to people.

So we came up with this:
But we thought the 'Mamma Knows Best' sepia old fashioned paper look clashed with the black and white distorted photo.

So, we made the picture sepia and it looked a lot better. Finally, here is our finished Album Promoting Poster:

Creating our 6 panel Digi Pack

Today we finished our 6 panel Digi Pack. We used the front and back cover what we created and added another 4 photos what we had took and one includes a screen shot from the video. Here it is...

Shooting the footage

We went down to our location last night and were able to shoot all of the footage we need. We are going to make a start editing tomorrow using Adobe Premier. This is how it appears...

Editing the back cover

Because we made the mistake of putting 'R H Y T H M' as the title of the back cover when we had '  M A M M A  K N O W S  B E S T' we have changed the title of the back cover to match the front.

This is the finished back cover...

Back of the album cover/ track list

Today we did most of the back of our album/ track list. This is what we produced...

We named the album 'rhythm', but later realised on the front it said 'Mamma Knows Best' because we got confused as to whether we were promoting the video with an album or as a single. So, tomorrow we are going to change the 'R H Y T H M' to 'M A M M A  K N O W S  B E S T'.

Making a start on our album cover

Due to complications and delays with our location, we haven't been able to film yet. So, we decided to start work on our digi-pack album cover. For the front cover have gone for a retro, old-fashioned type cover with a bit of an edge to it. This is what we have produced today so far...

For the track list we are using this picture,  fitting in with the jazzy 50's retro style.

The track list will be on the left, so it looks as though I am looking at the text.
We need four more pictures for the digi-pack, so here are a few 'maybes'?....

And then we will use a couple of shots from filming the video for the rest of the pictures for the digi-pack.

Research & planning for the Digi-pack and poster

Conventionally, the CD cover and promo poster are usually the same image, one being cropped and the other showing the other picture. However, we decided to challenge this and used a different image but instead having a theme of sepia, black, white and pink running throughout.
We have been particularly inspired by these two Album covers and posters:

Combined with our video, Beyonce has been our inspiration also with the music video too, and this Album cover and Poster, along with the Eminem one is similar to the what we want to do, with there being a main picture with writing around it.

Album cover/ Digi pack layout

(6 panel 1 CD Digipak . Tray on right side. 5.53" X 0.31" X 5")

We have decided to go with the 6 panel digi pack. We feel the more pictures of the artist and shots from the music video will be effective. We like this example of the 6 panel digi pack and hope to make ours similar to this...

The show must go on

We have arranged days and times that suit me, my partner and the performer. We have got the performance shots of her in a jazzy 50's background, and today we are going to film in the Tea Rooms Cafe for a few of the other shots, then we will just need the shots of her cleaning and throwing clothes around, which won't take long.

Complications with filming..

Recently, we have had a few minor problems with our leading lady. Unfortunately, our original singer is unable to perform in the video now, so we have had to find another girl who fits the criteria and appearance. We have sorted the outfits and locations, and the video is still the same and we have now started filming.

The image

The image we are aiming to go for is a vintage 50's style, but making it 'sassy' to give it her edgy look too. So, we have been researching 50's images in order to be able to style 'Rosanna Love' effectively.

Hairstyle ideas:
Rollers, wavy, headband.

Outfits:
appealing and stand out. Not too much cover up, but still classy. Use checked shirts, denim shorts, playsuits.

Makeup:
Basic, eyeliner, mascara, and red lipstick.

Locations

We have found a small cafe/ fashion design area where we are going to shoot the performance shots of 'Rosanna Love' on the small stage under a spotlight. The cafe has a kitsch traditional tea room setting. Here are some pictures of the location.

For the scenes where Rosanna will be cleaning in a living room, we are using an old-fashioned style living room, filled with rnaments and too, has a kitsch look. Here are the pictures.

Lyrics, narrative and performance

"Well there is something going down
Like the storm in the sky"

-Here during the introduction we are having 'Rosanna' on her own dancing - this will be part of the performance element of the video.

"I ain't gonna be played by your behavior
How can I trust someone who's lying to me, so..."

-This will be a long shot of her in a living room cleaning. She will be wearing an old checked shirt and hight wasited hotpants. We will use close ups of her face and hands.

"Bow out, go!
Now I said bow out, leave!"

-This will go back to the performance shot on her own, we will speed up the footage to give the video a comical element.

"I said take your stuff and go,
'Cuz you're not for me"

-Here she will be in her bedroom throwing clothes around. This will add to the narrative element of the video what relates to the lyrics.

"Mama knows best when times get hard"
-This shot will include 'Rosanna' and her mother in a kitchen with her mother pointing at her, and Rosanna sat at the dinner table looking down.

"And papa always has a joke to make me laugh"
-After the above, her father will enter smiling, and making Rosanna laugh. We may use a close up shot of the hugging and smiling.

"Mama knows best when
I feel down"

-This will be a long shot, then zooming into a mid shot of her and her mother sat on her bed.

"to bring me up
And always keep my feet on the ground"
-This will show a close up of her upper body, lowering down to her legs, then her foot stomping on the floor.

"Say I know know know
That you can pick up and drop,"

-This will also be another perfromance element of the video. Rosanna will be performing on a stage with a spotlight and an audience. This will be of a 50's style with her wearing a long glitzy dress with big hair.

"And all of this inconsistent love
I think it's about time that it stops"

-This will go back to the solo performance on her own, when the lyric 'STOP' comes in, she will put her hand out in a 'stop' gesture right infront of the camera.

"So bow out, go!
Now I said bow out, leave!
I said take a bow and go,
'Cuz you're not for me"

-This will again go back to her in her bedroom looking to the camera with an attitude, then slamming a door.

"Mama knows best when times get hard"
-Here will simply show her face close-up looking sad and crying, we will accelerate the shot to keep the comical element.

"And papa always has a joke to make me laugh"
-This will be the same as above, but will show her laughing, and agin accelrating the shot to make it look comical.

"Mama knows best when
I feel down, to bring me up
And always keep my feet on the ground"

-This will go back to the performance on the stage with her singing into a microphone.

"Just keep the best of ma'
Daddy said to me

Always use humor as your therapy, yeah"

-This will show her and her father in the kitchen again, and her dad will mime the 'just be the best' lyric.

"Don't ever take life too seriously,"
-This will go back to her in her bedroom with the atittude, lip syncing to the camera and then smiles.

"Just do you, 'cuz you do you so perfectly"
-Here we will go back to the solo performane element where she is looking to the camera with a bright coloured background.

"Mama, mama knows best
Daddy, daddy knows best"

-This is at the end of the song, and is repeated. We are going to have the end of the song with her  on the stage in hyer long glitzy dress having fun, dancing around being silly.

Final decision

After reviewing our 3 pitches and discussing with other people, we found the most popular was Pitch 1.
So, our artist we are launching is 'Rosanna Love' who will be singing the song Jessie J - Mama knows best. The video will be of a 50's style with influences from videos such as Beyonce - Why don't you love me and Christina Aguilera - Ain't no other man.

The lyrics in the song are:

Well there is something going down
Like the storm in the sky
I ain't gonna be played by your behavior
How can I trust someone who's lying to me, so

Bow out, go!
Now I said bow out, leave!
I said take your stuff and go,
'Cuz you're not for me
Mama knows best when times get hard
And papa always has a joke to make me laugh
Mama knows best when
I feel down, to bring me up
And always keep my feet on the ground

Say I know know know
That you can pick up and drop,
And all of this inconsistent love
I think it's about time that it stops

So bow out, go!
Now I said bow out, leave!
I said take a bow and go,
'Cuz you're not for me

Mama knows best when times get hard
And papa always has a joke to make me laugh
Mama knows best when
I feel down, to bring me up
And always keep my feet on the ground

Just keep the best of ma'
Daddy said to me
Always use humor as your therapy, yeah
Don't ever take life too seriously,
Just do you, 'cuz you do you so perfectly

Mama, mama knows best
Daddy, daddy knows best

With these lyrics it is easy to include both performance and narrative elements. We are going to tie in the performance and narratives to make it quirky and also keep the audience intrigued.
